Dhuni is, quite simply, the most aromatic incense you can buy. But by aromatic we’re not talking about the kind of pungent smack in the face you get from the cheap rubbish at the market. We’re talking about the soothing, earthy, natural smell of an incense made by the best company in the business. Our incense master comes from a family that has been in the business for generations – and in India that means a LONG time….
Aromatic incense is made from wildcrafted or organic plant botanicals, dried under the Indian sun, then ground and prepared by hand. The product is then cured under more sunlight until the sticks are ready to be packaged and sent. Our packets, for those of you who’ve been wondering, are made for us by schoolchildren in India, hence the slightly home-made look. We enjoy supporting a community venture and think they do an excellent job too. The project helps pay for some of their school’s basic costs, and even a few teaching materials.
The final step in packaging our aromatic incense is the blob of sealing wax with the distinctive dhuni logo. The dhuni is a common symbol in India, representing the womb of the earth itself. Indian holy men build their fireplaces in this shape and offer materials to it, as a symbol of the potential for spiritual transformation.
